Creativity and New Media

For this assignment I wanted to use "Minecraft" which is a Java game that is similar to lego building blocks but with a  sense of an adventure. Unfortunately, Minecraft is not free so without further ado...

I decided to try second life for this assignment. I picked a character from one of the company made avatars. I chose a human for this assignment instead of an animal. The avatar does not look like me at all but I guess that is fine with me because I kind of value my privacy. I logged into the game and I decided to make a custom appearance of my avatar. It was rather difficult to change the appearance of the avatar. I did not like the custom appearance options one bit. I find one part of the custom appearance to be hilarious in that the hair piece is actually a wig. I could not modify the hair so I went on a journey to find a hair salon or something similar. There was an abundance of female hairstyles but not many male hairstyles. Clothing was also another issue and I decided to use one that was custom made by another user.

In this case second life allow us to be more imaginative about how we design our avatar or build different areas like that Hotel Chelsea.

Here is a snapshot of the default avatar...

…on my journey to find custom hairstyles (well not the one I wanted but this will do)

This snapshot is my journey to find custom clothing (not the one I wanted though)

This snapshot shows my avatar in London. I have always wanted to visit London.

While I was in London, I decided to visit Big Ben.
